Sydney Airport is the busiest not only in Australia but also in the Oceania region. Around 35.62 million passengers transited through it in 2011 and is expected that by 2020 more than 60 million. It concentrates a large number of domestic flights as well as international flights to all continents. It is one of the most modern airports in the world. JetStar Airways, V Australia, Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue and Tiger Airways are low cost airlines operating on the premises.

Foundation Date: 1920 inaugurated as a military airfield. In 1953 it was renamed as Kingsford Smith International Airport with commercial flights.

Location
Sydney International Airport is located 9 km (6 miles) south of the city. Most of the routes that reach the airport are well signposted and indicate always the shortest route.

Number of Terminals - 3 - Two domestic and one International. The terminals are connected together by trains and buses.

Public Transport
Trains, buses and taxis connect the airport with the urban area. The same train that connects the terminals, also communicates with the airport with the city. The railway station from the domestic terminal is located directly between T2 and T3. Meanwhile the train station of the international terminal is located north of the terminal and can be accessed directly from the arrivals area. Journey time to downtown - 30 minutes and the train ticket fare is $15.40 australian dollars (further information - tel. 61 2 8337 8417). Several bus services take passengers from all the terminals to the metropolitan area (Journey time to downtown - 30 minutes and the bus ticket fare is $12 australian dollars). The train station is located between Terminals 1 and 2. The airport cab services is provided by: Legion Cabs (Tel. 131 451), Premier Cabs (Tel. 13 10 17), RSL Ex-Servicesmen's Cabs & Co-Op Members Ltd (Tel. 61 2 9581 1111), Silver Service Fleet (Tel. 133 100), St George Cabs (Tel. 132 166) and Taxis Combined Services (Tel. 133 300). Taxi fares: Centro de Sydney $50 australian dollars, North Sydney $65, Manly $103, Parramatta $165, Liverpool $114 and Cronulla $89. Taxi ranks are at the exit of the airport terminals. They can also reserve limousines. All taxis, limousines and shuttles must be coordinated in advance, it is illegal for drivers or their agents request a rate for passengers.

There are car rental offices from the most recognized companies in the arrivals terminal (Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Budget, Thrifty, Redspot). Hire a car




The airport also offers ATMs, currency exchange, post office, conference and meeting rooms, VIP lounges, public telephones and internet access Wi-Fi, mobile phone rental, among other facilities.
Food and Drinks - restaurants (some of them with australian cuisine), fast food, cafes and bars scattered around the site.
Shopping - souvenirs, various shops and duty free, wine shops, beauty salons, newspapers and tobacconist.
Baggage - left luggage in terminals 1 and 2 and trolleys available throughout the airport. The lost and found office is located on level 3 of Terminal 1 (tel: (02) 9667 9583).
Other Services - medical center, pharmacy, children's playroom and movies for kids, baby changing facilities, showers, prayer room, smoking section, among others. Information desks are located in all terminals in the arrivals area.

Disabled Facilities - ramps, showers, telephones and toilets, among other services. Wheelchairs are available (in coordination with your airline or travel agency).

Parking - The airport has three parking lots. The international terminal parking (covered with 4300 places, is located opposite the arrivals area). On the other hand, there are parking lots for domestic flights and for long-stays. Between terminals 2 and 3 there is a covered space which can be accessed easily on foot. Parking fares: up to 3 hours $20 australian dollars, $22 daily, $69 weekly, $95 15 days and $199 monthly. There are also places reserved for accredited disabled passengers. Valet Parking is also available.

Accomodation - In the vicinity of the airport some international hotels are located and some of them offer a free shuttle service for guests. In addition, in Sydney city centre several hotels are located such as, the Meriton Serviced Apartments - World Tower, or the Bayview Boulevard Sydney, both 5-star category.
